CREATIVITY LIVES HERE, PART 1

NOVEMBER 7TH, 2023

When I was growing up, I found myself finding little spaces where I could express and release my creative energy.  The first place I remember, was under the desk in my bedroom. I shared the room with my older middle brother, so there wasn’t a whole lot space.  I played with my Lego blocks, Tinker toys and Lincoln logs under that desk.  When I discovered my love for drawing, I would simply draw on top of the hardwood floor.

As I got older, I used to make imaginary forts out in the backyard by our orange tree in the corner.  I spent hours playing in the dirt making crude structures for my well worn toys. After playing outside I would come in and set up a little area in the living room.  The sunlight would peek in through the westward facing window and I would read my dad’s books and magazines on  military aircraft and ships.  Or read about animals and nature.  Soon I would be drawing.

Later on my creative haven was in the garage, where I would build things, take things apart, and often unsuccessfully be able to reassemble them! Even back then I would have this burning desire to understand how things were built and what makes them function.  Learning how hand tools worked was always a great discovery for me.

After many years of curiosity and professional development, the need to have a creative environment has never waned.  Fortunately I’ve been able to walk this journey with other like minded people.  That brought us here, to Bento Box Studios.  Where we can express, create, and release our creative energies.  Steeped in our cultural upbringing, professional and personal experiences, and the constant honing of our skills, we can share tangible ideas to others.
